June 17th, 2010 by sunrayAnouncement to flying group members
Please be advised that our new web site is under construction and this site is non functional for contacting people, so please contact Gary or Bas if you want to communicate something to the group.
We anticipate the site to be operational within 4 weeks.
The new site will operate differently to the old one in that a new member will need to supply full contact details and be approved by the administrators. The intent of the new membership concept is to ensure more activity amongst members.
Hangar Flying @Roulettes June 10
May 29th, 2010 by Bas ScheffersIt’s been too long…
Come along for a “hanger flying” session at Roulettes on Thursday June 10th. If you want to have dinner there (Gary and Bas will for sure!) be there at 7. Otherwise make it 8 (or earlier and watch us eat!)
A good chance to catch up with friends and throw some ideas around for flying trips.
Let us know in the comments if you’ll make it.
Gary’s Excellent Adventure
May 11th, 2010 by Bas ScheffersIt’s been quiet here, not in the least because Gary has been planning – and is now flying – his three week chopper trip. He’s in Broome right now and these are some of the iPhone snaps and videos he’s sent me.
It’s not all been plain sailing; first he had a fuel pump problem for which an engineer had to fly out to meet him and the latest thing to break down is his air conditioning. The broken compressor belt is in the photos. How will he keep a cool head until he can get it fixed in Darwin?
Vintage Wings, Wheels and Wine Festival 2010
March 14th, 2010 by Bas Scheffers
Today I popped into Aldinga for lunch and Gaylene told me about the Vintage Wings Wheels and Wine Festival they are organising on Sunday April 18th.
Basically, there has been a vintage car festival in Aldinga for years. This year for the first time it will be extended to the aerodrome, with a vintage and classic aircraft fly in! But there’s more: the new PC-12 hangar will be full of gourmet food and wine offerings – as if the food isn’t gourmet enough at Aldinga every day.
So fly in with your vintage or classic aircraft and enjoy some good times and good food. However, if you fly in a boring Cessna 172, please park it out of sight. (kidding!)
There should be more information soon, which I will post here. In the mean time, let us know in the comments if you are planning to go and if you need or have any spare seats.
Great aircraft, great food and great people – my three favourite things all in one package. Kylie and I will be there in the Sporty!
Maitland Fly In 27 & 28 March 2010
March 7th, 2010 by Bas ScheffersMaitland Aeroclub, just to our north west on the Yorke Peninsula is organising their annual fly in later this month. From the announcement, in their own words:
Maitland Aeroclub (SA) Fly In on the weekend. Lunch available for early arrivals Saturday and “Special” Tea on Saturday night with great social atmosphere at Hangar. Accommodation available on request. As always, everyone will have a great time. Breakfast and lunch supplied on Sunday.
Please contact President Peter Reppin 0428 890 055 or Richard Hasting 0418 859 049 Bruce Linke 0419 814 113
I (Bas) plan to go for lunch on Saturday and I believe that so is Gary. Should be a good weekend to meet some fellow South Australians committing aviation; I hear it gets busy. Maitland (SA) is in ERSA on FAC-M-6. (as opposed to Maitland NSW, which is on 4 and 5!)
Let us know in the comments if you will be there and I will give the guys advance warning we’ll be there!
BBQ at Moonta Sunday 21 Feb 2010
January 29th, 2010 by Bas ScheffersStarting February each year, Moonta hosts a BBQ lunch every other month on the 3rd Sunday. That makes the next one on the 21st of February. Let’s aim to arrive there at noon.
Click on the mud map to see the full size. Be aware that these are grass strips of only 550 meters long so check your performance especially if you are flying fully loaded on a hot day!
The location of the airfield is S34 01.686 E137 34.750 or 2nm NNE from the town centre.
For a nice fly, going north to Port Pirie (24h AVGAS credit card bowser) is along a beautiful coastline. If you want to go over water, tracking SKI to Ardrossan keeps you just out of the restricted area and if you go high enough probably withing gliding distance all the way.
Let us know in the comments if you are coming, what you are flying and offer any seats you may have!
(Please note the Google Earth images are rather old and do not show the runways as they are; 02/20 is missing entirely)
Gawler Aerodrome Re-Opening March 6th
January 28th, 2010 by Bas ScheffersI just received word that the Adelaide Soaring Club is having a Grand Opening of the New Gawler Aerodrome. If you want to fly in, they are waiving the rediculous $10 landing fee they normally charge, just for this day.

Aeroscene going forward
January 27th, 2010 by sunrayLast night was a good meeting which carried on until nearly 12pm. Another dynamic is evolving which not only adds more balance but more opportunites for all current members.
Let’s review the past! Aeroscene was formed in order to bring together people passionate about aviation. This included pilots and non flying personel. So far tafe students have been a big part of this evolment. Within this group there are students who are just solo and Qualified pilots(ppl or cpl) who are seeking more hours. This brings a balance in that students can jump in with ppl pilots and do nav’s in order to gain more expirience while enjoying social interection with others at pre organized destinations. Enter the new up and coming group. – aircraft owners! We only have four or so at this stage but I have put a plan or two in place to increase this. Please note that there is no intention of changing anything that is currently in place.
I was thinking the other day…”So what does Aeroscene look like to other aircraft owners? “What is our brand”? “Why would people want to “join up” to the blog or aeroscene? Then it hit me…They probarbly wouldn’t because we haven’t given them a reason or much enticement to do so. Let’s face it we are just a group that like a chat on the ole blog every now and then…
So…if we had a structure where people could VIEW A CALENDAR OF EVENTS …some of the activities just might spark some outside interest from from students, licienced hire and fly guys and aircraft owners. They would be enticed to join up the group and be part of it’s evolution.
Then there are the people who think…”We don’t need a calendar of events”… GREAT! These people can still have the flexability of doing on the spur of the moment activities at any time and with anyone that they want. Let’s just be flexible here Just like Bas and I did over the christmas break. We decided to do a couple of nav’s put up a blog and invited people to join us.We intend to continue with this.
Last night it was unanimous that we need to cover the structured way of doing things as well….hence the events calendar. In fact we considered pushing it out to 18 months to cover large events such as one that being planned at the moment…the Northwestern safari…Darwin – Broome and return. This will not suit everbody. But that’s the whole point… it doesn’t have to.
Bas is working on a simple way of offering the events to you and allowing you interact and “put your name down” for it…there will be a deposit required to stop people nominating for everthing and going nowhere as well.
More about this later.
Please feel free to add any comments..
Cheers for now
Sunray
