Cruisin' the Coorong

20 Nov 2011 8:00 - 15:00

Cruisin' the Coorong is an air exercise designed to help you master the 1 in 60 rule and then relax while cruising up the coorong to Goolwa for a BBQ lunch.

Each leg of the exercise will have a nominated  and pre planned 1 in 60 senario which  will be documented along the route. The objective will be for the pilot to estimate the track error at the predetermined point and add it to the closing angle to arrive over head the destination way point on time. The estimation of the track error is a pivotal consideration.

20 Sep 2011 @ 17:49
I've booked the J160 from Gawler, with Karen as Pax. Totally loved the Loxton flight and this one looks even better!!!!
21 Sep 2011 @ 17:58
I've cancelled the 160 Gawler for the Coorong flight as there are more pilots than aircraft, and need to give someone else a shot. I'll definitely be coming on any future ones though. Enjoy yourselves everyone, be thinking of Y'all.
21 Sep 2011 @ 19:38
on ya Kev..yeah you are starting to see the benefit of RA already....? with the 230 booked - price and performance or bang for your buck ...hard to beat here.
22 Sep 2011 @ 10:12
Was looking at hiring a J230 out of Gawler (as is a lot closer for me), but was advised members there will get priorty, which i fully understand. Even better to hear that after the last Nav, others now want to join in, so aircraft at Gawler (and MB) may be in short supply. The advice is get in early! On another note the current VNC/VTC expire a few days before this Nav so hoping you can provide another printout to save a couple of $$!
26 Sep 2011 @ 9:46
Hey Gary - looks like a great day. I am booked in 7314 (I think) with Thomas. Coffee at Gawler, brekkie at MB and lunch at Goolwa - super!

14 Nov 2011 @ 9:48
Looking forward to it - it will make a change flying in the Jab again as my recent flights have been in rather larger jets - currently en route back from the US and looking forward to the A380 flight tonight
14 Nov 2011 @ 14:53
Rather than cluttler the cockpit with a VNC and 3 WAC's, i have created a single A3 sized colour map using the overlapping WAC's 3469, 3458 and 3459 which cover the entire track. To compliment it, I also have an A3 size VNC (effective 17th Nov)section, covering the Murray Bridge to Binnie Well leg (and Goolwa to Murray Bridge) which will provide more accuracy for the 1:60's. If you want copies and have an A3 printer (be sure it is not set to enlarge/shrink to fit), email me and will send as colour pdf's. kevin.harris@viterra.com
15 Nov 2011 @ 20:46
Lorelie, Mandy and Lynda will be bringing up the Assured shuttle with BBQ trailer to Goolwa.
16 Nov 2011 @ 15:06
Has anyone thought to contact Bordertown AD OPR to alert them to the AeroScene bunch doing T&Gs or full stops? And to check for glider ops planned for this weekend?
16 Nov 2011 @ 15:26
Can you guys please try and have CLOSE to the right money for food on the day.we aren't intending to carry a float at all. $5 breakie and $8 for Lunch. Lunch will be a hamburger/steakette, a sausage, a chevapchichi as well as salads AND a softdrink...tell me that's not good value...Mike is organizing a good hearty breaky...
16 Nov 2011 @ 15:31
I have spoken to the operator Paul and thanks for thinking about it. I have been advised that there are about 3-4- gliders only that operate on the weekends, so not expecting this to be a big issue.Treat as a Ctaf OCTA. The operator says that pilots are welcome to do a touch and go if they like. It is up to the PIC. I will be using it as a turning point only (there is not much there) and will be overflying at not less than 2,000 feet due to winch operations. Gary
16 Nov 2011 @ 20:43
If anyone has a spare seat from YPPF or YGAW to YMBD (and return), let me know as otherwise I will be doing some early morning driving from Woodville to YMBD. I have a J230 booked from YMBD for the exercise.

17 Nov 2011 @ 12:24
If anyone happens to have a spare seat from YMBD, a fellow flier from Goolwa, Brian Stott, who has just heard about AeroScene, would love to come. Sorry for the late notice, just putting it out there in case anyone's plan changes. Brian can be contacted on 0414 360 300 and i'm on 0413 285 333.

Many thanks!

Brett
17 Nov 2011 @ 17:42
That'll work out well, Brett. I'm giving Kevin a lift between YPPF and YMBD both ways. Once I dump him overboard (:-) I can take Brian for the rest of the day, then leave him at YMBD at re-collect Kevin after it's all over.

Sound like a plan? If that suits, chase me down at breakfast on Sunday. VH-SOL.
17 Nov 2011 @ 17:51
Thanks Mark, consider the seat filled. Brian will start from YMBD with you but finish the trip at YGWA (along with me, i'm deserting Lyndon there!), we both can then go home from YGWA without a 2hour drive. Looking forward to this trip very much!. Brian has just got his Pilot Cert from the Goolwa School and is looking forward to learning a bit about Navigating. :)

18 Nov 2011 @ 9:39
Garry - have not done the final calculations test but I guess we will require fuel at Goolwa and possibly a top up in MB prior to the exercise
19 Nov 2011 @ 10:16
Ali - that depends on your fuel flow ect.(my chopper is 60lts p.h.) I will be topping up at M bridge prior and Goolwa for Yppf. It's up to the PIC as To all pilots flying this exercise please ensure that you attend the safety brief. Also after lunch will meet as a group and DISCUSS the exercise. The intent here is that we learn from one another. BTW had fun yesterday taxiing around Parafield flight testing after a 100 hourly in gusting :)27 knots.

See you all tommorrow Gary
