AeroScene: Flying Group

Post Christmas BBQ on KI

27 Dec 2011 10:00 - 14:00

What's better than to go for a bit of a fly on a public holiday? Good thing we're getting an extra one on Tuesday the 27th of December. With everywhere else shut, Glen Willson is happy to host us at his property near Penneshaw!

A quick and informal gathering this one, no routes or plans, just arrive at your leasure after about 9:30am. We'll hang out, have a bit of "I'll fly yours if you fly mine" going and relax.

For a scenic arival, you can follow the coast clockwise from Penneshaw via Antechamber bay to the Cape Willoughby Light Station.

Because of the late notice, we're not expecting too many, so for now, Glen is happy to cater. Or feel free to bring something yourself!

You may have seen Glen flying around in his bright yellow RV7A VH-AAK at previous AeroScene events and elsewhere around the country.

Looks like a good crowd will be there! There's another two RV6s coming that have not announced themselves here yet.

Meat, salads, bread, all will be provided. This is not some dusty airfield in the middle of nowhere, it's a very nice private residence where we can sit and hanger talk under the veranda. (Still in the middle of nowhere, though! But that's the attraction.)

See you there tomorrow!

Cool - other hazards; just be aware of a fence line on either side of the runway (it's quite wide so not to worry, but it's difficult to see - more of a hazard when parking really).

Also there's a power line about 100m south of the 36 threshold (Single line feeding the house). Not in the way during a normal approach but know its there.

The only other gotcha is some funny windsheer effects (read: gusts) from the cut-down tree line at each end of the runway.

Most often the runway favors 18, and we park in a line at the 36 threshold end (closest to the house for lunch!)

Ah well, will have to sit this one out! Was contemplating a drive down but I think its a bit late to be planning ferry rides etc...

Have a great day tomorrow though, shall see you all at th next event.

All in - weather on KI is overcast at 2000ft.

Past Aldinga, you'll have to go coastal 1500ft as the cloud is too low to go over the hills. Over water you can make about 2500ft.

Weather is improving as the day goes on.
